Where can we get those lights we’ve seen at the entrance to people’s driveways?

At community events we are often asked about the lights at the entrance of a driveway. The lights are often green or blue. These lights are helpful when returning home at night and you need to see where the driveway is. They are called ‘outdoor stud road safety markers’. The ones we’ve seen are solar-powered, charging during the day and coming on automatically at night. Best to get the heavy-duty ones that are designed to be strong and shock-resistant – meaning trucks can run over them without doing any damage. There is no rule covering them. However, we suggest you don’t choose blue, because that colour has been used in the past to indicate fire hydrants, or is used by the police.

For those who are interested, we’ve included a link of a typical product on our ‘HOMES’ page.

How could we miss this link?

Service NSW has a search function, ‘Check a vehicle registration’. If residents see a possibly-dumped car, it easy to enter the registration number and see if the vehicle is unregistered. A call to the local police may be in order. There is a penalty for parking an unregistered vehicle on a road or road-related area for more than 15 days.

You can check a vehicle’s registration details online. A free registration check includes:

  • the registration expiry date
  • whether the registration is suspended or cancelled
  • any registration restrictions
  • any registration concessions (additional charges that might apply when transferred to a new owner)
  • the compulsory third party (CTP) insurance provider and policy expiry date
  • the past three odometer readings (if applicable).
